I’ve tried in this personal prayer to distill some of the basic lessons that I’ve learned from my study of Buddhism and meditation over the years. It’s not perfect, but when I’m feeling stress or existential angst, I can read these few simple lines and catch my breath.
Go slowly. Go forth with deliberate action.
Always return to your breath. Rising, falling.
Note thoughts, then let them go. Who is the thinker? Who feels anger?
All dhammas are without form. All people are equal.
The miracle of co-dependent origination means: You are, therefore I am.
Dwell in stability and freedom in the present moment.
Dwell in loving-kindness. Radiate metta to all beings.
Follow the precepts. Don’t stand in the way of your own awakening.
